Ellis heads to Forest Akers Golf Club to compete in State Finals

ALPENA, Mich. — Three years ago, Alpena Wildcat golfer Kennedy Ellis never thought she would be a good golfer and/or to have a chance to play in the collegiate level. Fast forward to now, she’s been named all Big North Conference All-Conference 2nd team. She will be competing in the Michigan High School Athletic Association State Finals this Friday and Saturday at Forest Akers Golf Course. Plus, she already has some college offers to consider.

“To see how far I’ve gone in such a short time is just amazing,” said Kennedy Ellis.

Ellis has gotten a lot of support from her family and friends. However, the one person that has pushed her to be the best she can be on the golf course is her coach, Tate Skiba.

“He’s been amazing,” said Ellis. “He was the first person to teach me how to play golf. I’m very thankful to have him around.”

Ellis knows what Forest Akers Golf Course is like. The focus for her for the next few days is just playing her game.

“My focus is to just play the best I can play,” said Ellis. “It’s the last tournament of the season. I’m just trying to cap off the season with some good rounds.”
