With another round of snow coming this weekend, DTE Energy has some important tips for keeping you and your gas meter safe.

It’s important to keep your roofs, meters, and pathways toward a meter clear of snow and ice. Remove hanging ice from the edge of your roof. Keep that gas meter free of snow and ice by removing accumulations with hand, brush, or broom.

DTE Regional Manager Carla Gribbs wants to help keep you and their employees safe.

“These tips will help both our DTE Energy employees as they do their jobs safely, such as servicing meters or periodic safety inspections, certainly during emergency situations,” said Gribbs.

Especially in case of an emergency, it’s important to have a clear path. Also, don’t use sharp objects, salt, hot water, or ice melting chemicals to remove snow or ice on your meter. By acting on these tips, customers can have a better piece of mind when it comes to keeping their gas meter safe from the intense winter that’s taken over Michigan.

“By ensuring that their gas meters are operating properly and their functioning properly, it also ensures that carbon monoxide, a very dangerous substances, isn’t likely to build up,” said Gribbs.
