Defense helps Eagles take down Vikings

The Hale Eagles celebrate after going up 2-0 in the third set.

Posen (October 11, 2018) — The Hale Eagles traveled to Posen for a Thursday night volleyball match against the Vikings. The Eagles lost their last match against Alcona 2-3.

The first set didn’t see much attacking by the Vikings as they opted to play more conservatively and try and locate sets over the net. The Eagle defense was able to counter this and set up Morgan Vance for a big night up front. Vance and Karli Lacrosse combined to make up Hale’s main offense as they took the first set 25-15.

The second set was much more competitive on both sides. Brooke Ciarkowski and Madison Menzel combined for Posen’s offensive power, but the big star of set 2 was freshman Makayla Kamyszek. Hale trailed by as much as 18-8, but Kamyszek went on a long serving run bringing the Vikings back to 23-21. The set tied at 25 following a substitution penalty against Hale, but the Eagles were able to finish set 2 28-26.

The third set saw more of the same action as the first set: Vance dominated on offense and serving. Ciarkowski added an ace for the Vikings, but ultimately fell 25-22 in the final set. The Eagles win in straight sets in their breast cancer awareness uniforms.
