Crown the Wildcats for the Big North Conference title

Alpena wins ninth straight BNC title.

Alpena, Mich. — The Alpena Wildcats softball and baseball teams both battled Petoskey on Tuesday for a doubleheader. The green and white entered the match just one win shy of the sole ownership of the Big North Conference title.

The softball team hosted the Northmen on senior day and shut them out 4-0 and 13-0, securing their ninth straight title since 2011.  Emma Fraser hit the last RBI in game one bringing home Allie DeRocher for the 4-0 lead. Senior Fraser also pitched a complete game ending her outing with eight strikeouts. The green and white ended the day (20-9) overall and (10-0) in the BNC.

Alpena will graduate six seniors: Emma Fraser, Rachel McDonald, Kali Spomer, Dayna LaBell, Riley Alexander and Lilly Lewis.

Baseball secured the title in game one with a 4-1 victory thanks to 11 hits by the offense. Petoskey got revenge in game two 4-3 despite Alpena’s eight hits.
