COVID-19 shuts down more area teams

ALPENA, Mich. — On Monday, a total of six area teams had their seasons cancelled due to COVID-19 protocols. Four days later, two more area teams got added onto the list. Fairview girls basketball and Au Gres-Sims boys basketball weren’t able to compete in their district final matches. Fairview would’ve faced Mio and Au Gres-Sims would’ve faced Hale.

“When you work with these girl and you tell them we have a chance to put numbers up in our gym,” said Fairview girls basketball coach Troy Ross. “We had a shot to do that on Friday and now we don’t get it.”

Fairview closes out their season with an overall record of 8-6. Au Gres-Sims will finish the 2021 season with an 8-10 record.

The Lady Thunderbolts will take on Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart in the regional semifinals on Monday. Meanwhile, the Eagles will head to Midland on Tuesday to play the winner of Fulton/Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart.
