Couple charged with multiple sexual assault crimes

Alpena — New evidence in a 10 year old case led to the arrest of 59-year-old Walter Deneal Massengill and 60-year-old Joann Marie Massengill-King on multiple sexual assault charges.
In 2008, a 6-year-old child reported incidents at school. Investigators weren’t able to gather enough evidence to hand out charges. Now, both Massengill and Massengill-King were arraigned in the 81st District Court on Monday.
Walter Massengill received charges of one count of Conspiracy to Commit Criminal Sexual Conduct in the 1st degree, three counts of Criminal Sexual Assault in the 2nd degree, and three counts of assault with intent to commit sexual penetration. Joann Massengill-King received charges of one county of Conspiracy to Commit Criminal Sexual Conduct in the 1st degree, three counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct in the 1st degree, three counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct in the 2nd degree, and three counts of Assault with Intent to Commit Sexual Penetration. A $500,000 bond has been set for both parties. The two are being held at Alpena County Jail.
