Cooler and dry from Friday into the weekend

High temperatures today reached the middle to upper 70s across Northeast Michigan. Sunshine this morning until the mid-afternoon and brisk winds out of the southwest helped bring these slightly warmer-than-normal temperatures to our area. An incoming cold front has produced a few showers in the late-afternoon, and this cold front will bring cooler temperatures for the end of the week.

Drier weather and clearer skies moving in from the west will take over tonight and tomorrow. The dry pattern will last into the Labor Day weekend.

Hurricane Dorian has remained at category 1 strength today, currently producing winds about 85 mph. It will travel to the northwest and intensify. On Friday, it is forecast to strengthen to category 3 with winds over 110 mph. On approach to Florida, Dorian is expected to reach category 4 strength with winds over 130 mph. Dorian will likely make landfall on Monday, somewhere along the Atlantic Coast of Florida. The latest forecast calls for winds of category 3 or 4 strength at landfall, then weaken after landfall. It will also bring rainfall amounts over 5 inches and high storm surge to the eastern coast of the southeastern states. This hurricane will disrupt Labor Day weekend travel plans in parts of the Southeast, especially Florida.

Low temperatures tonight will get close to 50 degrees with mostly clear skies. Plenty of sunshine will last all day long tomorrow, but a breeze from the northwest will bring high temperatures only in the lower 70s.

For the high school football game of the week at Posen, expect partly cloudy skies Friday evening. Temperatures during game time will start in the middle 60s and cool to the middle 50s by its end.

Mostly sunny skies are expected tomorrow with high temperatures in the lower 50s. Low temperatures will cool to the middle 40s early Saturday. High temperatures will reach the lower 70s again Saturday and Sunday. Temperatures are forecast to warm to the upper 70s on Monday with partly cloudy skies. The next chance of showers will move in Tuesday. For the rest of Northeast Michigan’s weather forecast, watch the latest weather video by clicking the weather tab at the top of the page.
