Cooler and Drier Weather This Week

After record-breaking heat on Sunday, temperatures and humidity are on the way down to more comfortable levels. Yesterday, the observed high temperature at Alpena airport was 96 degrees, breaking the old record of 95 degrees set in 2006. Today’s high temperatures reached the 80 degree mark in many areas of Northeast Michigan, albeit with high humidity noted by dew points near 70.

The pattern resulting in on-and-off rounds of downpours has sunk to our south. The muggy and unsettled pattern is being replaced by a cooler and drier air mass moving in from the northwest.

High temperatures tomorrow will be close to 70 degrees on the Sunrise Side, with a high of 72 degrees expected in Alpena. Temperatures will be slightly warmer away from the shoreline where some inland communities will have temperatures reaching the mid-to-upper 70s.

If you’re spending any amount of time outdoors tomorrow, you will want to apply the sunscreen as the UV index rebounds to a value of 7, meaning a high risk of sunburn if sunscreen isn’t used. Air Quality will be good, and tree pollen levels will be high.

For tomorrow, a little more sunshine will break through the clouds with partly cloudy skies and high temperatures in the lower 70s around Alpena. Wednesday will start off slightly cool in the early morning with low temperatures in the upper 40s, though temperatures will warm up nicely to a high of 79 degrees in the afternoon. The next chance of showers will enter in on Saturday, and high temperatures are forecast to remain in the 70s through the upcoming weekend.
