Cold temperatures continue through Thanksgiving; Warmer Friday-Saturday

High temperatures today reached the middle and upper 20s with mostly cloudy skies, although a few peeks of the sun were seen around midday, and winds out of the west about 10 mph. Cold temperatures will continue through tomorrow.

Yet another cold front sweeping through the Great Lakes is producing some light snow showers, moving through Northeast Michigan this evening. The cold front will continue to promote cold temperatures across the area.


Overnight, low temperatures will drop to around 18 degrees in Alpena as light snow showers pass through Northeast Michigan. For tomorrow morning, mostly cloudy skies are expected with temperatures in the lower 20s. Temperatures will then drop to the upper teens in the afternoon combined with a chilly breeze out of the north about 15 mph.

For any travel plans across the country, the snow showers currently moving through Michigan will continue to shift eastward, reaching New York, Pennsylvania and northern New England tomorrow. The coldest temperatures will be anchored over the Upper Great Lakes with highs reaching only the 20s and 30s. Not much has changed in the forecast for the West Coast, soaking wet conditions are still expected tomorrow. The warmest temperatures in the country will be found in the southwestern states with afternoon highs warming into the 60s and 70s.

Around Alpena, low temperatures predawn, early Thursday will drop to around 8 degrees. For Thankgiving day, temperatures close to 10 degrees are expected in the early-morning. Afternoon temperatures will reach only into the upper 20s under mostly cloudy skies. During the evening, the drop-off in temperatures will not be as significant, as temperatures cool slightly to the lower 20s.

For tomorrow, mostly cloudy skies are expected with temperatures falling from the lower 20s in the morning to the upper teens in the afternoon. Mostly cloudy skies will continue on Thursday with afternoon highs reaching around 28 degrees. Warmer temperatures will finally move in on Friday as dry weather continues with partly cloudy skies. On Saturday, rain showers become likely as the warmer temperatures continue.
