Chisholm Street and State Avenue intersection under construction
ALPENA, MI. – A busy intersection faced a closure on Tuesday afternoon.
The intersection of Chisholm street and State Avenue in Alpena closed yesterday as emergency water main repairs took place.
During inspection, the maintenance crew noticed a depression– which signaled the need for emergency repair.
Luckily, the main did not lose enough pressure to cause water shutoffs.
Michigan Department of Transportation Alpena Manager, Garrett Dawe, said the crew got to work after the inspection. “Maintenance crews started to notice a depression forming in the pavement which is usually an indication that something has failed underneath. The repairs entail digging up the road down to the water main, making repairs to where it had broken, and then filling the road back in. ”
MDOT said the intersection is expected to reopen, at the latest, by noon on Friday.
