Boys and Girls club breaks ground
ALPENA, Mich. — Work is officially underway for the BGC’s long–awaited center on 801 West Miller Street.
Once completed, the center will include a gymnasium, multiple activity rooms, and— most importantly— more space for Alpena’s kids. During the groundbreaking ceremony, the group gave special thanks to Representative Sue Allor, who helped obtain government funding for the project.
Allor said the project is a crucial investment in the community’s future.
“And to know there’s an organization such as this, that’s been giving 110% to make sure there’s support for kids. It was very satifying to be able to put in this request.”
Executive Director Bradley Somers said he’s thankful for the community’s financial support. He also looks forward to the opportunities the new building will offer.
“This building gives us that opportunity to continue that growth, which is so important to not just the staff, but the community as well. The growth, the collaborations, the community. That’s what about for us.”
