Bicyclists Takes Advantage of National Ride Your Bike to Work Day

With warmer temperatures outside and gorgeous days like today, many people are choosing a unique way to commute.

Joe Rybarczyk loaded up for work today but he didn’t drive his car.

“It’s almost just as fast, it takes 15 minutes to bike as apposed 10 minutes to drive,” Rybarczyk revealed. Rybarczyk said he finds freedom when riding a bike.

“It’s a much more pleasant experience, you get to look around a bit more and feel the outdoors. It helps with my mental health if I’m feeling stress from the week usually a bike ride helps clear your mind,” he explained.

Taking a break from work to enjoy a moment with friends, this bicyclist didn’t realize it was her lucky day. If you plan on riding a bike remember there are a few rules you must follow. When turning left use your left hand and turn arm horizontally and when turning right use your right hand and extend horizontally. To stop and decrease speed use your left hand and arm downward, as for preparation well we’ll let Joe answer that.

“We’re in Northern Michigan the weather can change on a dime so a lot of times I will carry a raincoat or a jacket because by the time you leave work even though it was warm when you got there it can be cold later. Make sure you have your water bottle as well because you need to stay hydrated a few years back and so that’s something to keep in mind as well,” he advised.

Although Motor Vehicle Codes does not require bikers to wear helmets, it’s strongly recommended that all bikers wear helmets to prevent brain injuries in case of an accident.
