Bell Ringers Needed for the Holidays, Sign Up at the Salvation Army

With holiday season around the corner, the salvation army of Alpena is currently looking for excited people to volunteer as bell ringers.

The Salvation Army is hoping to fill volunteer shifts at 10 red kettle locations, including Kmart, Walmart, Walgreen’s, and more.

The Salvation Army is hoping to have large groups, families, or individuals come out this year to help. Each year the red kettle bell ringing campaign helps provide services year around for the organization.

Captain, Amy Cedervall said it’s great to see volunteers enjoy ringing bells, and helping out during the holiday.

“It’s also something that can make people feel good. It can make people feel connected to the greater cause, the greater good. It never ceases to amaze me when you see people who give back, how much joy they can get out of the experience and some who didn’t necessarily want to do it. Some kids who were forced to do it, they would come and talk to us after about how much fun it was and how much they enjoyed talking to people who would tell them stories about how much the Salvation Army helped them as children or something along those lines. So it’s just great to kind of have that community togetherness to be able to know that you’re helping your neighbors,” Cedervall said.

The volunteer hours will be from 10 am until 8 pm daily except Sundays. Volunteers should expect to work 2–hour shifts.

Bell ringing ends December 24th. Interested volunteers can register now at the Salvation Army located at 722 North Second Avenue in Alpena.
