After a six year hiatus, Bay Athletic club relaunches their train to run program for the summer.

“Train to run is a program designed from anyone who is a beginner runner to an advanced runner to learn how to run their first 5K, which there are a couple in June. We’re very lucky here in Northern Michigan, a lot of people want to get going and running, and so our job is to help out with that and get people moving” said Sarah Szostak, train to run coach at Bay Athletic Club.

Train to run has a month long program starting on June 3rd that meets every Monday and Thursday at 6pm at Bay Urban Fitness. Each session includes a warmup, workout, cool down and a guided walk or run.

“You start out by walking. We’re going to take you through all the steps to have you learn how to run safely and with joy. So part of this is learning the joy of moving our bodies and doing it in community” said Giovanna Meek, Bay Athletic Club Group Fitness Instructor.

The train to run program is open to the public for $75 and $50 for Bay Athletic Club members. The program ends on July 4th where program members can apply the skills they’ve learned at the 4th of July 5k run.

“It’s just about being outdoors. So we all have different levels. It isn’t about someone having to be able to race and go far, It is about getting our bodies out and moving” said Meek.
