Baseball is coming to Alpena Community College in 2023

ALPENA, MI – Alpena Community College may have just wrapped up Spring Commencement for their 2022 graduates, but they have already announced a huge development in athletics for next year. The Lumberjacks will finally be having a competing baseball program in 2023.

The new program will have Alpena Community College practicing and playing their home games in Ossineke. The school has had many enquires about adding baseball to its athletic program alongside the softball program that wrapped up their season early last month. Cynthia DeRocher, ACC’s Athletic Director, along with ACC President Don MacMaster, spoke about why now was the right time to have the addition of baseball as part of the lumberjacks athletic program for next year.

“What made it right now is that our conference changed,” said DeRocher. “It reduced some of our travel from going and playin in Detroit all the time.”

The distance proved to be a difficult problem in having baseball as a part of the athletic program. Now with the school expanding into the Northern Conference for next year, DeRocher tells us it allows them to have a competitive baseball team.

“We’ll be able to play less teams than normal and teams much closer to us.” said DeRocher.
