AU GRES, MI- The Au Gres-Sims Wolverines seemed poised to take home a second straight regional championship. Those dreams were dahsed as the Morrice Orioles came in and took home the title with a 34-16 win.
Au Gres was unable to get star running Keagan Bender going all game. Bender scored five touchdowns in the regional semi-final win over Kinde. Au Gres Quarterback Carter Zeien threw two touchdowns, connecting with Cole Pendrith for 75 yards in the first half. He connected with Tyler Zaherniak for a 65 yard score in the fourth quarter.
Morrice controlled the line of scrimmage throughout the game. QB/RB Drew Mcgowan ran for two touchdowns. Travis Farrow had two second half touchdowns to put the game away.
Morrice advances to the state semi final against Mendon. Au Gres finishes its season with a 9-2 record and a second straight NSL title.
