Art Walk kicks off in downtown Alpena

ALPENA, MI — Now that the weather is finally is breaking, Alpena’s downtown Art Walk is officially ready to kick off, and Friday evening, art galleries around town did just that.

The art walk is an opportunity for community members who may not typically have the time, to experience Alpena’s art scene. Galleries and some restaurants in the area will keep their doors open later into the evening, for people who work or have other obligations during normal business hours.

“We have five studios, art galleries that are involved, one of them is 45 North Art Gallery, and the other one of course in Art in the Loft where we’re broadcasting now, and My Glass Wings, Studio Rebedo, and also Thunder Bay Arts Council, which is right down the block from us.”

Jasso says art is a part of Alpena that keeps the area vibrant, and gives residents and visitors a closer connection to the city.

“It’s nice to see artists that live here in Alpena and produce their items here, and bring them here, and then people take them home and they have a part of not only the artist, but they part of Alpena because a lot of the times, people do artwork that’s part of the city, so that brings them closer to Alpena. ”

The fun kicked off Friday evening, and will continue on the last Friday of every month through November.
