APS Scholarship Applications on the Horizon

It’s about that time of year when high school students have to start thinking about their future. Some will go to college, some will pursue a trade, and others will take a path off the educational trail.

Whatever they decide to do, there are scholarships available, and the deadlines are approaching fast. If they don’t know where to get started, there are people who can help.

“Have a seat, let’s write all your strengths out,” said College Advisor for Alpena Public Schools Jenny Taratuta. “What kind of school are you going to? What’s your plan? Let’s look for scholarships you could apply for. There is a scholarship out there for everything, all you have to do is just find that right spot.”

The scholarship application process is an exciting one, but can also be stressful. Having so many available scholarships may ease some of that stress.

“Any way that you can promote yourself, about how you’re a leader, how you were involved in the community, how you did active involvement while here at school, your GPA, things that you did in clubs, all are great aspects to include in scholarship applications,” said Taratuta.

On Tuesday, Taratuta is hosting a scholarship application setup in the senior lounge at Alpena High School, to answer questions about scholarship applications or any questions students might have in general about college.

“I’m trying to help make it easier by just giving them some of those pointers of – write it with me, I’ll help you understand what a paragraph should look like when you’re applying,” she said.

So what is the best way to find out what scholarships you qualify for?

“I just hope that they try it, that’s all I can say is you never know unless you try,” she said.

Taratuta will be sharing multiple scholarships available to students on Tuesday, including ones locally, like at Alpena Community College.
