APlex Trunk-or-Treat sees massive turnout

ALPENA, Mich.– The APlex sponsored this year’s “Trunk or Treat.” To say the turnout was enthusiastic would be an understatement.

Friday night was the APlex’s first time hosting a Trunk–or–Treat and the line of cars ran from the parking lot onto Johnson Street.

The APlex opted to take on the task after the city of Alpena cancelled the annual event. Organizations from around Alpena came together to make the event successful. Elaine Sommerfeld, organizer for the event, said it’s all about the kids.

“I think it’s important for the kids to have as normal of a childhood as they can have. And when I heard that downtown had to cancel due to COVID and they didn’t have the ability to social distance, that’s when I started thinking about how we could do this. How could we make it work?”

This year’s Trunk–or–Treat took the form of a drive–thru in order to maintain social distancing. The event had plenty of sweet treats for kids, more than enough to satiate a sweet tooth.

To learn more about taking care of that sweet tooth, tune in Halloween night at 11 P.M. to hear from a  local dentist about post–Halloween dental care.
