Another Alleged Victim Revealed During Rev. Obwaka Hearing Monday

A bond hearing was held today in Rogers City for the catholic priest accused of rape. Reporter Star Connor was inside the courtroom during Monday’s bond hearing.

Interesting facts today in the Obwaka case when another victim stepped forward.

Monday the courtroom was full again, as a bond hearing was set for the catholic priest accused of raping another priest. The defense team was in for a shocker when the assistant prosecutor revealed that there’s another alleged victim in the Obwaka case.

“One of the things that was supplied to the court was information about another victim from 2003. That has been provided to this court, and in fact (details) will be filed today, outlining that there’s another victim that has been contacted and come forth giving a statement to the state police. The statement will show the dangerousness of this individual,” the Assistant Prosecutor said.

Obwaka’s Attorney, Matt Wojda asked the judge if bond could be set at $50,000. Wojda said Obwaka was ready to give up everything including his passport in order to be released from jail until his trial.

“First my client will agree to surrender his passport, drivers license, credit cards, Kenyan ID card, and the keys to his car. This would give the court insurance that he has the intent to stick around and defend him self in this case. Second… We’d give the information of the apartment where he’s staying. Third my client would provide the address of the apartment where he’s staying,” Wojda said.

Obwaka’s bond was denied once again Monday in fear that the priest would flee the U.S.

“Well it’s an unusual case so bond is denied under the court rule, counselors are aware of that court rule due to the findings made,” the Judge said.

The former St. Ignatius priest was charged on two counts of criminal sexual conduct back in February. Obwaka was charged with a count of first-degree criminal sexual conduct with personal injury, and third degree criminal sexual conduct force.

Obwaka’s alleged victim is a 28–year–old male, who’s also a priest. The victim claims that Obwaka sexually assaulted him while he was sleeping at Obwaka’s house in Rogers City back on February 1ST.

The second alleged victim was not present during Monday’s hearing. Details to the second alleged victims case is still unknown at this time. Obwaka’s trial has been set for May 15th, 16th, 17th.
