ALPENA, MI. – Alpena was shining in red white and blue this morning as the Fourth of July parade set off at the Alpena County Fairgrounds. Children danced down the street as the town came together to celebrate Independence Day. Members of the armed services kicked off the parade playing ceremonial melodies while dressed in uniform. The parade featured dozens of floats, bands, and patriotic spirits. Community members shared why they love watching the parade every year.

“I like the floats and mostly getting the candy. My favorite float was the one with all of the dancers. I also liked the little George Washington float with the Statue of Liberty.” said Shailyn, parade crowd member.

The HPC Credit Union hosted the parade this year and named the ultimate winners.
The Alpena Antique Tractor and Steam Engine Club took home the number one non commercial winning title.  Lafarge won first place for the commercial float category. This year marked another successful parade as the town celebrated America’s birthday.
