Alpena’s Cooper Bright scores 37 points to help Wildcats beat Gaylord 72-46

ALPENA, MI – Alpena nearly shut down an undefeated Freeland team back on Tuesday but would come up just three points short. On Friday the Wildcats were back in Big North Conference mode with the team hosting the Gaylord Blue Devils. Gaylord has struggled this year, with just two wins on the season so the Wildcats had a chance to increase their Big North standings with a win.

This game turned out to be a standout performance from one player in particular, and that one was Alpena’s Cooper Bright.

From the start Cooper took over for the Wildcats. Bright is going to get the ball wide open on the wing. Bright tries for three and sinks it.

This time cooper works his way down low before spinning past his defender and pulling up for a nice jumper. He’ll make that one as well for Alpena.

Bright now in the corner and he dishes the ball out to Devin Lamey. Devin drives in and tries for a long layup and Lamey sinks that one.

Alpena on the fast break, Cooper tries to go coast to coast. He fights through the defense, draws contact and a foul. Cooper though still nails the layup for the and-one. Cooper Bright in just the first half finished with 28 points.

Bright now gets the pass from Connor Cameron. He fires another three-pointer attempt and that one goes as well. Cooper finished with 37 points for an incredible outting.

Despite being down by a lot in this game, the Blue Devils kept fighting. Luke Gelow, the Sophmore gets the ball in the corner. He pump fakes the first shot then steps up to try for three and Luke hits that one for Gaylord, finishing with nine points.

Finally Cooper Bright makes a great bounce pass to Mason Mumford between multiple defenders. Mumford then has a wide open look for a layup for two more points for Alpena.

Off the back of Cooper Bright’s massive performance, the Wildcats get a strong Big North Conference win against Gaylord. Final score is 72–46. Alpena will hit the road for one quick Big North matchup Friday against Traverse City Central.
