Alpena wrestling ready for states
ALPENA, Mich. — This weekend, 25 area wrestlers from Northeast Michigan will look to place in the top eight in the state for their weight class. Three of those area wrestlers are from Alpena High. Declan Genova, Austin Bush, and Mason Bray will be competing in Grand Rapids this Friday in the Division 2 MHSAA Individual State Wrestling Finals.
From not knowing if the Wildcats were going to have a wrestling season to having three Alpena wrestlers qualify for states. It’s been a roller-coaster for first-year head coach Matt Kowalski.
“When I took the job, I didn’t know if we were going to start the season,” said Kowalski. ” I told the guys to take it one day at a time and we got that opportunity to compete.”
Friday’s meet starts at 10 a.m.
