Alpena Wildcats just fall short against undefeated Freeland 50-53

ALPENA, MI – It’s been a solid start for the Alpena Wildcats boys basketball squad this year. After getting a solid win against Traverse City Western on Friday, the Wildcats come into tonight’s game with a 6–2 record. Despite being low in the Big North Conference rankings, the Wildcats have still held their own against tough teams in the conference. Now tonight was a non-conference game against Freeland who come into this match undefeated. Alpena would have to give it all they got to take down this team.

First quarter, Devin Lamay finds Cooper Bright on the perimeter. Bright goes from deep and hits the three-pointer for Alpena.

Now Freeland with it. Working in the post is Alex Duley. he passes out to Jacob Kowalski who finds Jacob Kundiger in the corner. He tries for a three of his own and it falls.

Now Kowalski with it again for Freeland. He makes a hook pass to Alex Duley who draws the foul as his layup attempt takes a few bounces before dropping in for an and-one.

Alpena now back with it. Cooper Bright gets the ball in the post. He fights his way in before pulling up from 10 feet out to hit a nice shot. Cooper led with 23 points, really stepping up for Alpena.

Another guy who stepped up was the Tucker Bright. He gets a long pass from Ryan Voltz then makes a floater shot over the Defender. Tucker had 19 points tonight.

Second half now, Bryson Huckeby on the wing tries to fire a three-pointer and sinks it. Bryson would have 10 points total tonight for Freeland.

Duley again in the post fighting into the paint. He gets whacked going up but still gets his shot to fall for an and-one.

The Wildcats got into foul trouble late as Alex Duley once again is gonna get the ball down low and take contact going up. He gets a foul as he makes another and-one for Freeland. Duley led with 20 points for Freeland.

Freeland would just edge out Alpena to remain undefeated as the Wildcats just couldn’t hold onto the lead late in the game. Final score is 50–53. The Wildcats will be back in Big North competition Friday against Gaylord.
