Alpena Township Firefighters Honored at Board Meeting

Last night’s Alpena Township board meeting included special honors for a few firefighters.

Jim Stachlewitz and Ed Hoskinson were hired into new roles, and Scott Waterson was promoted to a lieutenant position. The men were sworn in by Supervisor Nathan Skibbe, and each had a member of their family pin their new badges onto their uniforms. The men also received certificates.

“Since he’s been here, he’s been very active helping day–to–day operations, and I wanted to give him the opportunity to expand upon that a little bit, and help him be in charge of daily operations at the north side station, and keeping up on all the records and different things like that,” Chief Mark Hansen said about Waterson and his new position. “He can certainly give me a hand with that process.”

Lieutenant Waterson is looking forward to his new role and what he is going to bring to the department.

“It’s quite an honor,” he said. “I feel that my training, my years in the fire service, I can help Chief Hansen do some of the duties that chief shouldn’t be handling as the day to day operations running a station.”

The meeting would proceed afterwards, and multiple topics, including funding for the township fire department, were discussed.
