Alpena Township Board of Trustees react to newspaper satire

The Alpena News

ALPENA, Mich. – The Alpena Township Board of Trustees is reacting to a recent comic from the local paper.

Last weekend’s paper included a satire about the township fire department.

The picture is in response to the lengthy process of the departments restructure and its relationship with the city.

Trustees reacted at Monday’s board meeting.

“I’ was very disappointed in the Alpena News when I saw it and heard about it,” said township treasury Lora Ellery- Somers. “I just think it was very insulting to anyone who is currently on our fire department or who’s ever served on the Alpena Township Fire Dept.”

“The 1st amendment is a blessing and a curse to some, but the reality is in a community of this size, I just look at that from a 10 thousand foot view and say what good does this do for our community? From my viewpoint it does nothing,” said Alpena Township Supervisor Nathan Skibbe.

Majority of the board made commented about the satire calling it distasteful.
