Alpena Takes Down Sault Ste. Marie in Shootout

ALPENA, MI- The Alpena hockey team improved to 2-0 as they took down Sault. Ste Marie in a shootout.

The Wildcats (2-0) struck quickly as Anden Marceau scored his fourth goal of the season in the first period. Garrett Hamp followed it up 32 seconds later with his first goal of the season to give Alpena a 2-0 lead.

The Blue Devils would turn the game around during the first half of the third period as they flipped a 2-0 deficit into a 3-2 lead.

The Wildcats evened the score with four minutes to go as Marceau found Harrison Kaszubowski on the power play to tie the game up at 3. The goal was Kaszubowski’s third of the season, all coming on the power play.

The game would go to a shootout. After both teams scored in round 1, they would play seven scoreless rounds as AHS goalie Aidan Schultz made eight saves in a row to make the game tied. In round 9, Jaden Marchlewski put an end to the night with a goal as Alpena secured a 4-3 victory.

The Wildcats return to play on Saturday. They host Kingsford to wrap up the Thanksgiving shootout.
