Alpena Public Schools celebrates Custodian Appreciation Day

Yesterday, October 3rd, was Custodian Appreciation Day for Alpena Public Schools, a day to recognize those around the school who keep things clean and orderly.

24 custodians cover 11 different buildings in the school district, amassing nearly 650,000 square feet. At Alpena High School, just four custodians cover over 250,000 of that. Custodian Gloria Woloszyk is one of those who does a good share of the work. “Maybe someone needs to think, ‘Well, what do the custodians do?'” Woloszyk said. “Well, we do a lot. We keep the building clean and everything. We do our best to keep it nice and clean.”

Communications Director Lee Fitzpatrick says the work custodians do does not go unnoticed. “They do an absolutely amazing job, and we’re so thankful as a district to have the folks that we have in place that do such a wonderful job for us,” he said.

The school is currently looking to hire more people for their custodial staff.
