Alpena Hockey Wins Fifth in a Row, Takes Down Capital City 5-0

ALPENA, MI- The Alpena hockey team is really good. They know it, but you will never get them to say it.  Through 11 games, it has been the perfect blend of confidence and humility that has powered Alpena to a 9-1-1 start to the season.

Alpena wrapped up the Blue Line Christmas Showcase with a second straight 5-0 victory, this time over Capital City. A co-op team, making the trip up north from Lansing.

Captain Anden Marceau led the way for the Wildcats as he notched his second hat trick of the season. Alpena has yet to lose a game this season with their senior captain in the lineup.

Goalie Aidan Schultz picked up his second shutout in less than 24 hours. He followed up a shutout victory over Escanaba, with another zero on the scoresheet, as he stopped all 15 shots he faced.  Schultz said it has been a superstitious couple of games.” Water bottle stays in the same place on the net, stick tape exactly the same, wearing the same socks.”

The senior has only given up two goals and has stopped 61 of 63 shots he has faced in the last four games.

Cam Young got the scoring started in this one, scoring in the second period. Reid Meinhardt scored his third goal of the tournament, which gave Alpena a 2-0 lead.

Alpena is off until the new year. They return to action against Cheboygan on January 4.
