Alpena Hockey Cracks Super 10, Prepares for Flint Powers Showdown

ALPENA, MI- When you look at the Michigan State hockey rankings, you now see the name Alpena in the Super 10. The Super 10 ranks teams from all divisions and for the first time this year Alpena has been included.

The Wildcats started the year ranked 8th in Division Two. They now stand 2nd in the division only looking up at undefeated Byron Center.

The ranking comes after the Wildcats took home their 8th win in a row. The have outscored opponents 45-5 over the dominant stretch, one that is clearly gaining attention.

They now prepare for their toughest weekend of the season. They will head west to Traverse City on Friday to take on Flint Powers Catholic, ranked 4th in the Super 10. They will  take on Saginaw Heritage, ranked 4th in Division Two, and sitting just outside the Super 10.

” It is hard work every day. We got two big teams coming up. It is going to take three good periods each day.” said Senior Forward Cam Young.

Senior Defenseman Ian Lightfoot had similar thoughts. ” As of right now, whomever works the hardest is going to win. Flint Powers, those guys are nasty. But we can hang with them any day of the week and shut them down.”

It is going to be a great test for the Wildcats as they look to cement themselves amongst the states elite teams. It all starts Friday at 1:45 at Center Ice Arena in Traverse City.
