Alpena Gymnastics remains strong

ALPENA, Mich. — Even though we’re in the middle of a pandemic, many residents are still going to the Alpena Events Complex (APLEX) center. Wednesday evening, nearly 100 kids wrapped up their first session of the school year.

“We’re very thankful that we are still holding classes,” said Alpena Gymnastics instructor Leah Stafford. “We’re working on keeping our spacing. We have different marks on the gym floor. We’re hand-sanitizing after every session and we have a professional cleaning company that comes in twice a week to make sure our gym is clean.”

Kids were broken up into different groups practicing a variety of things which include flips, turns, and jumps. Stafford also mentions the program isn’t just beneficial for gymnastics, but it also helps kids in other sports.

“The amazing thing about gymnastics is that if they just get into the introductory level,” said Stafford. “They can do handstands and rolls and that could help them in all of their sports.”

Session two classes will begin on Nov. 2. For more information, just go to alpenagym.com.
