The Alpena township board held a special meeting on Tuesday to approve the processing of donations towards the maintenance and refurbishing of a building for the Alpena Township Fire Department.
25 local businesses in Alpena donated funds to the firefighters that they will use to clean and fix up their station on the south side of town, off US-23. The board initially did not approve of the funds in August, but Fire Chief Mark Hansen gathered donations of which the board did approve on Tuesday. Hansen is grateful to the community for their overwhelming support. “I truly think the community sees the importance of us staying here, and us being able to have pride in the building that we go to and work in every day,” he said.
Hansen says he drew inspiration for the building’s potential new renovations from a building he saw near Hubbard Lake.
