Alpena County Regional Airport sees more passengers in May

ALPENA, Mich. – More passengers at Alpena County’s Regional Airport, may be a good sign for the summer months.

The number of people flying in and out of the airport increased from this time last year.

Airport officials said last May only 99 passengers flew out of the airport, but this May they saw close to one thousand.

Airport Manager Steve Smigelski said this increase is a great prediction of what’s to come.

“Folks have been wanting to travel, but states have been closed, and now with the lifting of the restrictions, the airport may start opening up to more than 50 percent capacity on the aircrafts, so this bodes very well for us, we’re happy to see folks traveling,” said Smigelski.

Smigelski said in addition to more passengers, the airport has a few capitol improvement projects in the works.
