Alpena County Fair Horse Speed Show

ALPENA, MICH. – The Alpena County Fair hosted a Horse Speed Show. 4H is not just for farmers– offering a diverse range of topics and interest areas, 4H is the largest youth development organization in Michigan. In fact, each year more than 200,000 young people, ages 5–19, explore what interests and excites them as they grow with Michigan 4H. Meet Hunter and her horse Cal. Hunter has been riding for four years with Cal. She says it all started with a large horse book she used to carry around, which led her to joining 4H.

“It has been amazing. I love learning about all of the animals and making all of the new friends. It has been an amazing experience.” she said.
She said that she has worked with her horse for several years, training, and bathing, feeding, and caring for Cal in so many ways.
“For a lot of us we have to work jobs to pay for their feed and where they have to stay. It teaches us about spending our money wisely. It is a big lesson to take care of something that is bigger than us.” said Hunter.
While speed racing isn’t her typical day, she says it is a great chance for
Cal to run free.
