Alpena County Clerk gives details ahead of elections, including taking selfies

ALPENA, Mich, — Voters no longer need a reason to obtain an absentee ballot, however, today at 4 p.m. was the deadline to register and obtain those ballots ahead of the election. Alpena County Clerk, Bonnie Friedrichs, says there are some important changes to be aware of this time around.

“This is what they call a closed primary election, which means that you have to declare a republican or democrat ballot. In other elections, generally, both parties are printed on one ballot,” Friedrichs says.

There are also some critical rule to pay attention to when it comes to photos and social media.

Friedrichs adds,”You cannot take a picture of yourself with your ballot. You can take a picture of your ballot, but it cannot have people in it, it cannot have surroundings in it. You cannot show anyone how you voted until you are at least 100 feet from the polling place.”

If you need more information or need to find out the location of your designated polling area, contact your county clerk.
