Alpena Community College reacts to President Biden’s American Families Plan

ALPENA, Mich. – Wednesday’s presidential address has some local educational leaders excited about the future.

President Biden introduced 2 years of free community college as part of his American Families Plan.

“Research shows when a young child goes to school, not daycare, they’re far more likely to graduate from high school and go to college or something after high school,” said President Biden. “When you add two years of free community college on top of that, you begin to change the dynamic.”

Alpena Community College President Dr. Don MacMaster said he can visualize Biden’s proposal, but wants to learn more details.

“From a theoretical standpoint it sounds really good, we’re interested in seeing what the details are, how it will be implemented and we will respond however the market lies out, said ACC president dr. Don MacMaster. “If it benefits students, we’re for it.”

ACC has over 1,000 students. Dr. MacMaster said many of them already receive some type of educational assistance for classes.
