Alpena Community College Baseball Prepares for Inaugural Season

ALPENA, MI- Baseball is finally back at Alpena Community College. With the roster assembled the Lumberjacks are two months away from opening day.

Head Coach Rob Enslen faced the task of building the program from scratch. But in the span of three months in the Spring of 2022 he put together a roster that he believes hits the culture he is trying to build.

Enslen is committed to keeping local talent home. ” Our recruiting motto is win the North. We want the best players in Northern Michigan to play for Alpena.”

The team is a blend of players from Northern Michigan and players from down state and even out of state. Building team chemistry has been a major goal of the players as the program gets started. “We got a lot of guys from different areas and since the fall we have jelled together very well” said former Alpena High baseball player Matthew Thompson.

While winning games on the field is the goal, the players are committed to representing the community and themselves on and off the field. “Accountability is huge”, said Corey Victor. ” Showing up to the field on time, getting to class, getting good grades, we want to show the community some heart.”

This season the Lumberjacks will be playing their home games at the renovated Veterans Field in Ossineke. They open the season against Owens CC on March 17.
