Alpena Community College Baseball Hosts Re-Inaugural Signing Day

ALPENA, MI – College baseball is returning to Alpena as the Lumberjacks hosted a signing day for the re-inaugural class of players committing to the college’s program.

Taking place at Park Arena at Alpena Community College, the event hosted players, coaches and their families. The players signed their commitments to play for Coach Rob Enslen and his staff for the upcoming season.

Former Oakland University player, Coach Enslen, assembled his team from scratch this past month. He explained his enthusiasm for the coming baseball season. “I’m super grateful for the opportunity and all the people who made the trip up, all of the players who come from all over the state,” he said. “It’s a very exciting time for our community and our baseball program.”

Although building a program in a month was a difficult process, Coach Enslen and his staff were up to the challenge after all. “We really keyed in on trying to find the right guys to create that culture that we wanted,” he said.

The ACC program features 30 new ballplayers on the roster. His players, particularly Matt Thompson, are equally excited to finally have college baseball back in Alpena. “I found out that Alpena was going to have a baseball team, and I loved that and had to jump on it,” Thompson said. “I thought it would be really fun to stay in my hometown and play some ball.”

The fall baseball season is set to start on August 29. Additionally, their regular season begins in the spring. The Lumberjacks will compete in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association Northern Division. Undoubtedly, the players certainly look forward to making themselves a known presence by all means.
