Alpena City Fire Department welcomes their youngest Firefighter EMT

ALPENA, MICH- Meet Jim Bolanowski. At just twenty years old, he serves the community as the youngest Firefighter EMT at the Alpena City Fire Department.
Graduated from Alpena High School, Jim knew he wanted to be a Firefighter since the age of thirteen. He was sure to join the Fire Academy and EMT class through the City Fire Department. He then worked at the township as a Firefighter MFR. His hard work and preparation paid off at his pinning ceremony Tuesday afternoon, where he officially earned the title of Firefighter EMT.

“So far everyone has been treating me great. I got to know everyone before joining. They are really good about incorporating me into things. We always have meals together.” said Jim.

Jim has big plans for his time at the Alpena City Fire Department, hoping to acquire new titles as he gains experience. He plans on encouraging other young people to join the fire service.

“I hope to become a paramedic. I want to be an officer one day. My biggest thing is getting young people in the fire service. I would love for more younger people to join.” said Jim.

His message to young people wanting to get involved is to put yourself out there, volunteer, and work hard.
