ALCONA, Mich. — Saturday, the Oscoda boys varsity soccer team had one of their toughest tests of the season. The Owls squared off with the Roscommon Bucks in the district finals (District 64) that took place at Alcona High School. These two teams have a little history going into Saturday’s game. Back in 2017, the Bucks rolled past the Owls in the district finals (District 63), winning 4-1 that also took place at Alcona High School.

Oscoda gave it all they got but fell short, losing 1-0 in a thriller. Both teams had their fair share of opportunities, but the game remained scoreless going into halftime. That would be the same case for the majority of the second half, but the Bucks capitalized late. With under three minutes left to go in regulation, Jackson Strickler got a shot off that hit the right-post and found the back of the net for the game-winning goal.

Oscoda goalkeeper Brendan Apsitis played one of his best games between the pipes. The junior finished with 18 saves, including three saves off of penalty kicks.

The Owls close out the 2020 season, finishing with a 10-6-2 record. Meanwhile, Roscommon (12-6-1) will head to Mount Pleasant on Tuesday to take on Bad Axe in regionals (Region 16).
