Alcona struggles in Roscommon; Alpena rolls in Bellaire

ROSCOMMON, Mich. — On Tuesday, the Alcona Tigers volleyball team couldn’t put the pieces together losing both matches to Roscommon (23-25, 18-25) and Traverse City St. Francis (7-25, 8-25). Lily Bilbey paced the Tigers with 12 digs and seven kills.

The Tigers (0-2) will look to bounce back on Thursday, where they will be in Boyne City to compete in a quad invitational. The first serve is scheduled for 5 p.m.

BELLAIRE, Mich. — After going 1-1 in the Sault Ste. Marie Invitational last Friday, the Alpena Wildcats volleyball team was able to take care of business in Bellaire, winning all three of its matches.

Alpena swept Bellaire (25-14, 25-20) and Boyne City (25-11, 25-16), but had to go to three sets against East Jordan (25-13, 23-25, 15-8). Kate Skiba had herself a night, recording 10 kills and six aces. Jade Gray contributed with 16 assists and nine kills and Allie DeRocher finished with 11 kills and five aces.

Alpena (4-1) hosts its annual quad on Thursday, starting at 4 p.m.
