Alcona and Tawas Advance to District 68 Finals

TAWAS, MI – The Tawas Braves hosted district 68 boys basketball action on Wednesday night. The Division 3 semifinal round kicked off with the Alcona Tigers taking on Johannesburg-Lewiston, while the Braves and Whittemore-Prescott followed.

The Tigers and Cardinals kicked off district semifinal action in Tawas. The Cardinals came out with a strong start, but Alcona’s defense quickly put an end to Johannesburg’s 15-14 lead in the first quarter. The Tigers picked up the pace in the second and never let up as they pulled away with the 62-41 win.

Sophomore, Garrett Somers, finished the night with a game-high 22 points for Alcona. Junior, Thomas Fox, led JoBurg with 14 points and Will Boden added 11 for the Cardinals.

The Braves and Whittemore-Prescott followed. Tawas reached the 80-point mark for the third time this season, as they ran away with the 80-60 victory over Whittemore. The Braves seemingly stunned the Cardinals with their strong offense throughout the game.

Senior, Vinnie Frank, led Tawas in scoring with 25 points and Ethan Hedglin added 19. Sophomore, William LaFranca, scored 20 points to lead Whittemore-Prescott.

The Braves advance to face Alcona in the district 68 final on Friday at 7 p.m.
