ACC Women’s Basketball Head Coach Cindy DeRocher Retires

ALPENA, MI – After serving as the women’s basketball head coach for the past two years, Cindy DeRocher has announced her retirement from coaching.

In her short span as head coach, DeRocher wasted no time in creating a successful program at ACC. In her first season, she was named Eastern Conference Coach of the Year by the Michigan Community College Athletic Association. She also led the Lumberjacks to their first winning record in the conference in 24 years. “I think we had made significant improvement,” she said. “That’s why I felt the achievement went my way.”

Coach DeRocher was fortunate enough to have strong players when she became head coach at ACC. Recently, Jade Schultz, broke the women’s basketball all-time scoring record this past season. Schultz heavily contributed to DeRocher’s first season as head coach. “We have our all-time leading scorer,” she said. “We had a couple players that made an impact right away.”

Reflecting on all her accomplishments at ACC, Coach DeRocher looks forward to having some well-deserved downtime. “Having a bit of free time,” she said. “I love to do things for recreation and I look forward to getting back to doing that.”

Congratulations to Coach DeRocher on all her success as the women’s basketball head coach, and we wish her the best of luck in her retirement.
