ACC to offer free workplace safety training

ALPENA, Mich. — Businesses can soon receive free training from Alpena Community College.

ACC received a $46 thousand “consultation, education, and training” grant from MIOSHA this week. As the title suggests, this money allows the college to provide free work–place safety training.

Grant Director Amanda Sumerix said they based their programs on the needs of Alpena’s leading businesses.

Those businesses also happen to include some of the state’s most dangerous jobs.

“The trainings that we’ll provide range anywhere from bloodborne pathogens for residential healthcare facilities to chainsaw safety and forklift aerial rescue safety for those utility line clearance businesses.”

Sumerix said several workshops will also have more general advice. Any business in the area can apply for a session by calling ACC’s workforce development department at (989)  358-7293.
