ACC men’s basketball coach steps down

ALPENA, Mich. — Recently, Mark Jacobs announced his resignation from the men’s basketball program. The decision comes after Jacobs took on a new role for work that will involve a higher level of travel, making it impossible for him to continue coaching basketball. In his four seasons coaching the Lumberjacks, Jacobs finished with a 9-53 overall record.

Jacobs began coaching the Lumberjacks in 2017, taking over after the retirement of former coach Frank McCourt. He always found athletes with great leadership qualities with a great work ethic. Not only he’s build many relationships with the teams he’s coached, but he has also learned a lot about himself.

“In my four years, I learned a lot more about the game of basketball,” said Jacobs. “It’s a lot easier to coach from the stands. I built a lot relationships with a lot of great men in my program.”

He is hopeful that he will still be able to coach cross country as it has a shorter season.
