ACC Baseball Prepares for Home Opener

OSSINEKE, MI- It has been a year of firsts for the Alpena Community College baseball program. First Head Coach, first signees, first practice, first game, first win and now finally their first home game.

The Lumberjacks prepare to host Bay College in the first home game of the revived program. The opener is slated for April 21 at 2 PM. All ACC home games will be played at Veterans field in Ossineke.

Head Coach Rob Enslen and his team have endured a month of long road trips and now finally get to play in front of home fans. “Something we have been really looking forward too. We have been looking forward to this weekend ever since the fall and the guys are ready to play a series at home. While instant winning is never expected with a first year program, the progress the team has made had been the measuring stick for Enslen. “Every weekend we are getting better. Each game has been a building block.”

While coming together on the field, the long road trips have given the group the opportunity to grow off of it. ” We meet up once a week as players to talk about what we need to improve on.  We all talk a lot, not just at practice but outside of practice as well” said pitcher Aaron Guitar.

The Lumberjacks continue to show signs of progress as a group.  This first group of players knows that laying the foundation for years to come is just as important as winning games. “Being a first year program we are just trying to set the example for everybody else. We are going to come in and work every day” said First Baseman Luke Mervyn.   Mervyn also praised the work of the coaching staff. “Coach Enslen is out here every day and Coach Sage is doing a great job with the pitchers.”

ACC is ready to play in front of the home crowd for the first time. The weekend at home gets underway at 2 PM on Friday.
