Woods nets hat-trick as Alpena blanks Oscoda

ALPENA, Mich. — Going into Monday’s game against Oscoda, the Alpena Wildcats were looking to bounce back from last Friday’s 3-1 loss to Cheboygan. They did exactly that as they roared past the Owls, winning 8-0 in a non-conference match.

Alpena had their foot on the gas pedal and never looked back. Anna Woods had herself a night. In her second varsity soccer game, the sophomore finished with three goals. Two of those goals took place the first half, followed by a goal in the second half to record the hat-trick.

“She’s a dynamic player and a crowd favorite,” said Alpena girls soccer head coach Tim Storch. “For her, every ball is a 50-50 ball on the field. She can chase balls down and cause defenders havoc. If they’re not prepared for being put under pressure, Anna’s going to end up winning the ball.”

Reese Wisniewski found the back of net twice, while Maddie Erickson, Alexis Treinen, and Laurel Alberts each finished with one goal for Alpena. The Wildcats will begin conference (BNC) play on Thursday in Petoskey for a 7 p.m. start time.
