St. Mary’s steeple causes N 2nd Ave. to close

Alpena- Winds ranged anywhere from 20 to 40 mph on Sunday as Alpena braced for another Spring snow storm.

With such harsh winds, the steeple at St. Mary’s Catholic Church off of N 2nd Ave. and Miller St. caused part of the intersection to be closed off. The crucifix could be seen swaying back and forth. According to True North Radio Network, it appears that the fiberglass steeple has a 10-12 ft crack.

Pedestrians are asked to avoid the area. Inspectors are expected to check out the steeple in the next few days.
