Wildcats opens Petoskey series with a win but ends up splitting the series 1-1

ALPENA, MI – The Alpena Wildcats baseball squad over the weekend got a massive double digit victory over Soo Ontario. Today they were back home with some Big North competition against the Petoskey Northmen for a two-game series.

In the first game, Petoskey would take an early 1-0 lead in the first. Then came the second inning where the Wildcats bats came alive. First up, Kadyn Budnik hits a line drive way over to left field. Logan Momrik will go from second to home and Budnik gets himself an RBI double.

Now Brady Niedzwiecki with two runners in scoring position. He gets a great base knock back up the middle through the gap. Budnik slides his way into home and Alpena takes the lead from Brady’s 2-run single.

Jake Zann comes up to bat and absolutely crushes one over to left field. It’s got some carry but lands just before the fence. Niedzwiecki will advance to third as Jake moves to second for the great double.

Up next Alex Cadarette will ground  one over up to the Petoskey third basemen. Niedzwiecki is gonna try and make it home. The throw to the catcher is in time but he lost possession of the ball and is ruled safe. Another run gets added to the Wildcats total.

Travis Weide this time would have two runners in scoring position. He sends one high over to right field and the outfielder isn’t able to track it in. Both runners will score as Travis runs and slides his way into second for another 2-run double

The Wildcats would rack up seven straight runs in this second inning. Logan Momrik will just get a ground ball back up the middle and through the infield for a base hit. One runner will score and that’ll be another RBI single for this run filled inning.

Alpena would win the first game of the day against the Northmen thanks in part to that massive second inning. Final score from this one was 8–5. The Wildcats would later take a tough loss in the second game of day, effectively splitting the two-game series. Final score from the second game was 2-3.
