Wildcats fall to Vikings

ALPENA, Mich. — After coming off a 57-46 victory over Traverse City West, the Alpena girls basketball team were looking to pick up another win in conference play.  However, that wasn’t the case for the Wildcats. Alpena just couldn’t get into a flow as they dropped its seventh game of the season, losing 55-35 to Cadillac.

Coming into this game, the Wildcats knew they were going to have their hands full. Cadillac was coming into this game with an 8-0 record in the Big North Conference.

Both the Wildcats and Vikings got off to a slow start. At the end of the first quarter, the Vikings were up 12-10. From there, the Vikings were able to get into a rhythm and put this game out of reach.

Makenna Bryant led the Vikings in the scoring department with 22 points, while Molly Anderson and Joslyn Seeley each contributed with 13 points. Allie DeRocher paced the Wildcats with 11 points. Ten of those points were in the second half. Jade Schultz added eight points and Jenna Leeck finished with seven points.

Both teams will play their final home regular-season game on Monday. Alpena (10-7) will host Sault Ste. Marie (16-1), while Cadillac (17-1) squares off against Essexville Garber (7-11).
